Be A Local Hero!
The fire service of today is one of the most diverse
and challenging professions known. It is this diversity that inspires
most men and women to enter the fire service, both as volunteer
and career employees. Today’s firefighter is trained to extinguish
fires, provide emergency medical care, respond to hazardous materials
accidents and natural disasters.
Being a volunteer firefighter
is not for everyone.
It is not for the meek or timid, or for those who
lose control of their emotions in time of crisis. You need more
than just a desire to help others. You also need courage and dedication,
assertiveness and willingness to learn new skills and face new challenges.
This is a job that will test your diplomacy and psychological skills
to the limit, as well as your ability to size up a situation and
deal with it. You will experience a wide range of human emotions
and responses and you will be expected to react calmly and professionally
to them. You will be expected to maintain a positive public image
at all times. You will have to train constantly to meet these challenges.
Crook County Fire and Rescue has a very rich volunteer history starting
from the very beginning of the fire department back in 1884. Volunteers
are still a vital part of the organization today with over 50 active
members of the department responding to all types of emergencies
in the county. In 2004 a total of over 20,000 volunteer man-hours
were recorded by our members.
We are always looking for new volunteers who are
willing and dedicated to serving the community they live in. Crook
County Fire and Rescue accepts Volunteer Firefighters in the spring
of each year during the annual Volunteer Firefighting Academy. Click
here to download our Volunteer Flyer.
Volunteer Firefighters must be at least 18 years of age at the time
of entry, in good health, good physical condition and free of heart,
lung or back disorders.
All new volunteers are required to complete an
entry level course at the Volunteer Firefighting Academy. The Academy
consists of various firefighting and EMS classes to prepare the
recruit for probationary status. To obtain an application to become
