ISO Protection Class - 4 / 8B
Insurance Services Office, Inc. developed the classification or protection class for Crook County Fire & Rescue; 4/8B. The split classification was developed due to the size of the Fire District and the absence of municipal water systems in all outlying areas. Generally, the first class (4) applies to properties within a defined distance (5 road miles in most states) of a fire station and within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant. The second class (8B) applies to properties beyond 1,000 feet of a hydrant but within the defined distance of a fire station. ISO generally assigns Class 10 to properties beyond the defined distance of a fire station.
