If you are using a burn barrel within city limits, the purchase of an annual permit at the Prineville City Hall is required.

PLAN your home fire escape today… It could save your life tonight!!

If you experience a fire in your home tonight would your family make it out on time? All occupants must know what to do and where to go in the event of a fire. If your smoke alarm sounds does everyone know what to do? Take a few minutes and make a fire escape plan. Follow the steps below:

Draw a floor plan of your home. Click here to view and print out the grid we have included as a PDF document you can use to sketch your home floor plan. Be sure to include a plan for each level of your home.

Include all emergency exits.

Make sure to include all doorways, windows and stairways. Remember to show two ways out of every room if possible, especially bed rooms. Show any feature such as the roof of a garage or porch that would help in your escape. Make sure all windows can open easily and everyone knows how to escape through them safely.

Does anyone need help?

Decide who will help any young children, infants or older adults. Knowing will save valuable time in a real emergency.

Choose a meeting place.

Make your meeting place a safe distance from your house. Choose something everyone will remember like your mailbox, a tree, a street light or your neighbor's house. Everyone should go directly to this meeting place so they can be accounted for.

Call 911!

Don't waste valuable time calling from inside your home. Once you have escaped safely, call from outside or from a neighbor's house. Make sure to report back to the meeting place.

Practice your escape!

Review the plan with all family members, walking through the escape routes. Make sure all exits are practical and easy to use. Practice with the lights out while crawling low on your knees making sure your windows can open easily. Continue to the meeting place.

Hold a fire drill twice a year.

Escape Ladders for your home

Crook County Fire & Rescue is currently involved in a home escape ladder program. We feel that it is important to have options during emergencies. The safe evacuation of your home is a life saving event. CCF&R is working with Red-Rung Rescue Ladders to provide two and three story alternatives for exiting homes in emergency situations. We stress that the use of the ladder is for emergency only. We are offering free ladders with installation for qualifying homeowners. Please call 447-5011 for more information.

Does your business have a need for such a ladder? Please call!
