Prineville is located in the heart of Crook County
in Central Oregon with a population of just over 8,000 and growing
rapidly. Crook County Fire and Rescue has a total of three stations
strategically located in and around Prineville providing service
and protection to approximately 450 square miles of urban and rural
fire district. Our emergency ambulance service area includes 2,291
square miles within the county as well as providing mutual aid assistance
to the surrounding agencies. The districts is manned by over 50
dedicated volunteers and 10 career staff 24 hours a day, 365 days
a year responding to all emergency medical, fire and rescue 911
calls. Last year Crook County Fire and Rescue responded to over
2,100 calls for help including 654 fires and 1,446 medical emergencies.
The main station was built in 1977 and is located
in the downtown area of Prineville at 500 NE Belknap Street. The
Powell Butte station is located at 8900 SW Reiff Road and was completed
in February 2003. The Juniper Canyon station is located at 12051
SE Juniper Canyon Road and was completed in March of 2003.
Crook County Fire and Rescue is governed by a publicly elected five
person fire board. Each board member serves a four year term. Board
meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month. The board elects
a board chairperson annually to preside over the board meetings.
Bob Schnoor serves as the Fire Chief and CEO of
Crook County Fire and Rescue. Chief Schnoor started out in the organization
in 1975 as a volunteer and worked up through the ranks to Fire Chief
in 1985. Chief Schnoor has a rich history in the fire service including
his father Bob Schnoor Sr. serving the department for over 30 years.
Chief Schnoor enjoys working on his ranch, horseback riding, fishing
and spending time with his wife Valerie and their three daughters.
